[ZDNet Tech News] Lindows moves to head off Microsoft. The Linux start-up files legal papers designed to derail Microsoft's trademark-infringement suit against its OS. 'Microsoft may lose its trademark on Windows,' says Lindows. Leveraging Michael Robertson's core competency - inflammatory sound bites that attract attention. 6:20:35 PM ![]() |

[xmlhack] Schneier worried about SOAP security. Bruce Schneier has written, in the latest issue of CRYPTO-GRAM, an analysis of the security of Microsoft's products, touching on .NET and SOAP. You mean like how there is none to speak of? Or just on principle, like we'll never have security *and* deliver on the promises of SOAP? Both are valid, I think. Update checked the article out -- yawn. Nothing surprising or even interesting. 10:27:13 AM ![]() |
[ZDNet Tech News] Microsoft prepares to explain .Net. Microsoft will begin spending $200 million to sell .Net as a means by which companies can eliminate time and technology barriers between customers, partners and employees. Yikes! $200mm is a lot of money. 10:25:33 AM ![]() |
[John Robb's Radio Weblog] Glenn recaps his Google analysis (which was very well done). What I would like to see is a Google product that combined external search (what they currently do), search of the corporate LAN, and desktop search. Put one keyword in and get multiple folders of results -- Web pages and images (they can leave out groups and especially that sub-par open directory project -- I would substitute K-Logs and Wiki-Wiki). 8:20:06 AM ![]() |

[SJL's Radio Weblog] IBM Articles IBM has published a couple of articles on how electronic payments are handled in the WebSphere products. Also, here's a good article on Wireless/SMS. And another on implementing single-sign-on. 8:17:16 AM ![]() |
[Scripting News] More data for Doc. There was a book edited by Ahl called The Best of Creative Computing. So, how did we come around to this topic? We were wondering if CC were to start up today, and it were on the Web, what would it look like. How did I get interested in this in the first place? A phone conversation this morning with Jon Udell, about BYTE. What value is there in the name? A lot to a graybeard like me (and Doc and Jon). BYTE and CC were great in their day. Weblogs look like they're going into the same space. What can we learn from them? How can we do it better with the shorter turnarounds, and a less expensive publishing process of the Web. ![]() 8:15:59 AM ![]() |

[John Robb's Radio Weblog] In order to more fully discuss the real-time enterprise, my friend Dann set up a new Yahoo Group called Real-Time Enterprise. It will be dedicated to discussing the business aspects and technologies associated with moving the corporate world to a Web Services enabled, real-time information system. You are welcome to join if this sounds interesting.
BTW: Dann has extensive experience with Tibco and massive real-time database replication. 8:07:31 AM ![]() |

[Sam Ruby's Radio Weblog]
Last week's essay introduced an asymmetry. It described a future where Radio could more easily consume foreign web services. This week's essay corrects that imbalance by taking you through the steps of constructing WSDL for WebServices hosted by Radio 8 for more easy consumption by numerous environments as diverse as PHP and .Net. In my vision of the (hopefully not too distant) future, Radio would automatically detect updated web services, generate the appropriate WSDL and upstream the results. Subscribing to a new web service would be as easy as clicking on that little XML coffee cup over there on the right. Without further ado: 8:06:09 AM ![]() |
