Funny. You know, music companies and VCs, in some sense, do the same thing. The place a high risk bet on a team and their intellectual property. Sometimes they facilitate the bizdev for the team. In exchange for the money and assistance, they take a big stake in the success of the venture. The stake is big because, the truth is, intellectual property and teams are common and money is hard to come by; and the investments *are* risky (in both cases, most teams/investments fail). It's funny because, two years ago, when people were bagging on the music companies, they were worshiping the VCs.
