Amazon Makes a Profit [Slashdot] Good news. I'm surprised it's surprising. You know, I still think Amazon (and probably only Amazon) was right to take the "Go big" approach. By occupying every possibly interesting retail space early, they kept anyone else from making a name. And being at the top gave them the valuation to pull it off for next to nothing. Now they get to pick and choose the best markets to stay in. I actually thing their success is the result of well-planned execution -- not an accident. 11:26:36 PM ![]() |
Sam Ruby's Radio Weblog - "Whoa! Sometime TODAY, Google changed. Instead of providing links to items that match your search requests, it provides links back to Google that they will redirect to the correct location. This presumably affects referrers and could have privacy implications. I'm not quite sure what I think about this just yet." I noticed this too. I don't like it. 11:09:23 PM ![]() |

How to Translate 'Free' to 'Fee'. [Wired News] - As far as I can tell, people liked free, but they never expected it to last forever. Well, maybe some did - those with "business" models built on "free". I hope those people get over it quick, like these folks did, and find out how much their customers value their products/services. A related note - One thing that people seem to misunderstand about economics the basis of price. I often get the impression that the general public thinks it should be fully determined by cost. But individual demand is part of the picture -- how much do you want this thing? That why CDs cost more than tapes, even tho its cheaper to make CDs. 8:33:18 AM ![]() |
