Intel C/C++ Compiler Beats GCC [Slashdot] Intel claims it's compiler beats GCC performance on a number of platforms - 47% increase in the geometric mean performance on kernels compiled on it.  Skeptical, but if anyone would know how to wring the  most out of the hardware for an operating system, I guess it would be them.
